I have lived most of my life completely disregarding matters of health. I guess it started when I was young and immortal. I’m not exactly sure when I outgrew that. Sometimes I wonder if there was an owner’s manual for my body that I didn’t bother to read.
Now that I am older I am suffering the consequences for this lack of concern for my own health. Diabetes, weight issues, blood pressure and cholesterol are all becoming important to my life. And this is only to name some of the issues.
Over the past few years I made an acquaintance of a Dr. of Nutrition. She has changed my life and pointed me in a new direction. I am not an easy subject but she has helped me see things in a different way.
The subject of enzymes has come up over the years and I really didn’t think much about them. So often it seemed to be that vitamins and supplements were just the latest craze and enzymes certainly fell into that category.
Enzymes are not just another supplement, if fact, you can take all the vitamin and supplements you want and they will do nothing unless you have the enzymes to break them up so your body can use them.
Two things are important to consider about enzymes.
1) As we age our bodies just can’t create the enzymes our bodies need. There are different types of enzymes metabolic and digestive. When we run out of digestive enzymes metabolic enzymes are converted to digestive enzymes and that is not good as they are needed elsewhere! Fighting illness and the like. This is a really good reason to consider taking enzymes.
2) Most foods have enough enzymes to facilitate digestion of that food. The problem is that cooking the food or processing the food removes the enzymes. Few of us eat unprocessed raw food so get none of the enzymes they should provide. Another really good reason to consider taking enzymes.
After making these discoveries and doing a lot of research my partner and I decided to focus a big part of our website on enzymes. We plan on adding more articles like this and more on our blog.
